Hurricane Laura made landfall and devastated the state of Louisiana and parts of Texas and Arkansas. In Ruston, the hurricane damaged a significant number of houses and businesses with high winds and falling trees. We’re grateful that our beloved Louisiana Tech campus suffered no major damage. At the same time, we know that many Tech students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends have suffered tremendous losses—particularly those living in Lake Charles and surrounding areas that took the brunt of Laura’s blow. Our hearts and prayers are with each member of the Tech Family affected, and our sincere hope is that you, your family, and friends are safe and well.
Many alumni have asked how they can best support students during this time. From the April 2019 tornado and the COVID-19 pandemic to this week’s hurricane, our students continue to prove their resiliency and drive despite unprecedented challenges. Now, they need your help to continue forward as the start of the quarter quickly approaches.
We recognize the global pandemic—and now Hurricane Laura—have impacted the ability of some our alumni and friends to provide support. For those who are able, we ask that you make a gift today to support the Student Relief Fund, a special fund established to provide emergency financial support to students currently enrolled at the University. We are committed to responding quickly to our students’ emerging needs in response to Hurricane Laura.
As always, the Tech Family has already stepped up to our newest challenge by organizing cleanup efforts and supporting friends and family in affected areas. The values that define us as Bulldogs are on full display across our region.
