Louisiana Tech’s Fashion Program identifies the opportunity to grow and better serve its students by addressing specific needs that will create a better learning experience. The Fashion Merchandising and Retail Studies Event Planning Class allows each student to dive into their interests and develop skills for a future career by implementing experiential learning in its classes. As each student connects knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world situations, they discover a more personalized learning experience and excel in skills such as communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, active listening, and creative thinking.
This Fall the class is creating two unique Shows, Vocals and Vogue, which is scheduled for Thursday, October 13, from 6:30 – 8:30, at the Ropp Courtyard is a fun show filled with entertainment. The students are styling performers to the era of their chosen song. The students are using Tech’s 5,000-piece fashion collection to spin a historic perspective between fashion and music. This show is a great interdisciplinary collaboration between the School of Performing Arts, Department of Music, Jazz Ensemble, and the School of Human Ecology, Fashion Merchandising and Retail Studies Program.
The second show is our biggest event, RUNWAY, Walking Art, inspired by the students showing their own innovative designs, as well as creative trends from local boutiques. The show will begin with a unique presentation conveying personality, feelings, and opinions by styling women’s hats—each style will transform into a work of art.
As we continue to grow and recruit students for Tech's fashion program, your support can make a positive difference!
