Noble Trees

"Oh Tech, thy halls so beautiful, thy pleasant walks, thy noble trees." Alumni have sung these words from our alma mater countless times. Our noble trees are engrained in our history and are an everyday part of the Louisiana Tech experience. Despite its undeniable beauty, there is work to be done to ready our campus for future generations.

Our president, Dr. Les Guice, has made these campus improvements a priority and had the following to say about the project:

Since its founding in 1894, Louisiana Tech University has been a beautiful campus designed to inspire our students to achieve excellence.

In the coming months, visitors to campus will see a number of improvements, starting with our Quad. A new series of LED fixtures is almost complete. When it is done, the project will offer our campus community quite a different view at night. Our paths will be better lit, and our trees and the beloved Lady of the Mist will shine as never before.

Our alma mater has always featured pleasant walks and noble trees, and the second portion of this project will focus on campus landscaping and our wonderful trees. We have engaged a landscape master planner and an arborist to help us determine how to increase the health of our existing trees, remove trees that are near the end of life, and plant new trees that will restore the core of our campus. This will lay the foundation for the Campus Green that will eventually run from Keeny Hall to Memorial Gym.

Thanks to a generous donor, we have initiated the Quad and Keeny Circle tree project, which should be complete near the end of the spring quarter. When combined with an additional planting near our new apartment complexes, this one project will result in a gain of more than 50 trees throughout campus. Our near-term goal is to place 1,000 new trees across campus.

We are incredibly proud of this project, designed to enhance the experiences of those who come on our campus while preserving the meaning of our alma mater, with its pleasant walks and noble trees phrase, for future generations.

The vision set forth by Dr. Guice and campus leadership is ambitious, but it can be accomplished with your help. Give to the Noble Trees campaign and help plant the seeds for our future. All gifts, large or small, are appreciated and will help transform our campus.

Thank you!
